A closed-off kitchen reworked into one long working wall, a generous island and a proper pantry tower.
This family had been living around a layout that stopped making sense years ago. Rather than move, they added at the back: a new family room with a large sliding glass door onto a deck, which pulled the daylight deep into the middle of the house.
The addition did the obvious thing of adding square footage, but the bigger change was circulation. With the new room carrying the everyday living, the original rooms could go back to doing one job each.
